Tutulong na ang Department of Science and Technology (DOST) sa Philippine Coast Guard, para imbestigahan ang Oriental Mindoro oil spill.
Ito’y matapos humingi ng tulong si PCG Marine Environmental Protection Commander, CG Vice Admiral Robert Patrimonio, kay DOST Sec. Renato Solidum Jr.
Layunin ng pagsasanib-pwersa ng PCG at DOST ang mabilisang pagkontrol at pagtukoy sa pinagmumulan ng langis, na ngayo’y umabot na sa baybayin ng Oriental Mindoro, Antique, at Palawan, sa tulong ng oil biomarker fingerprinting ng DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute.
Nabatid na tatayo bilang lead expert sa oil investigation sa ilalim ng National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Expert Engagement Program si Dr. Hernando Bacosa, isang Environmental Science Professor.
