Navotas Mayor, hinimok ang pamahalaan na muling aralin ang MM Ecozone ban

Pinakokonsidera ni Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco sa pamahalaan ang pag-aalis sa moratorium sa pagtatatag ng economic zones na nakabase sa Metro Manila.

Ani ng Alkalde, sa oras na tanggalin ang moratorium, darami ang investments na papasok sa Pilipinas na magpapasigla sa ekonomiya at magdadala ng paglago sa buong bansa.

Mababatid na June 2019, nang inisyu ng Duterte administration ang Administrative Order 18 (AO18) o “Accelerating Rural Progress Through Robust Development of Special Economic Zones in the Countryside”, na epektibong nagpataw ng pagbabawal sa mga aplikasyon para sa ecozones sa NCR.

“while i understand the rationale behind the moratorium, our country’s competitive landscape, investment priorities, and the entire global economic situation has undergone seismic shifts since then,” tiangco noted. “consider our case in navotas, for example. currently, we have no it parks or ecozones, despite the conduciveness of our city. this moratorium effectively deprives us of the opportunity to establish such centers, which could serve as hubs for technological innovation, job creation, and economic growth in our area,” ayon sa Alkalde.

Suportado ani Tiangco ang panawagan ng PEZA at iba pang grupo ng industriya na alisin ang moratorium.

“lifting the moratorium would give us an opportunity to establish it centers that would not only provide employment opportunities but also stimulate other economic activities, contributing significantly to our city’s overall development,” he stressed. “hence, i respectfully urge a reconsideration of the moratorium or the implementation of alternative measures to allow ecozone establishment in our city,” – paliwanag ni Hon. Ayon sa Export Marketing Bureau ng Department of Trade and Industry, ang export noong 2023 ay lampas sa $100-billion mark; kung saan naging top dollar earner ang industriya ng Information Technology Business Process Management (IT-BPM) sa bansa, at sinundan ng tourism sectors.

Alinsunod dito, ang isang kamakailang ulat na inilathala ng Leechiu Property Consultants na ang demand para sa office spaces ay maaaring umabot sa 1 milyong metro kuwadrado (sq.m.) sa likod ng paglago mula sa sektor IT-BPM.
